Pink Muhly Grass Perennial Ornamental Grass 2-3’ Full Sun Zone 5
Pink Muhly Grass is a long lived perennial grass, growing for at least 10 years. A stand of PMG becomes a real showstopper. Dividing PMG every few years is a good strategy to avoid dead area forming in the center of the clump. Lift root ball, split grass into 2-3 pieces. Place one division back in the original hole. Replant remaining clumps in new spots. Muhly loves a sunny spot with at least 6 hours of direct sun a day. Almost any soil will be fine, even clay or rocky soils. Water the first year, but once established supplemental watering should not be necessary. Mulch in the fall for winter protection. No fertilizer required, too much will make the plant limp and weak Muhly is not invasive it grows in clumps and spreads minimally. Attracts beneficial insects such as butterflies and ladybugs. $8 pot
