Ostrich fern can overtake a space when conditions are right, so give them lots of space. Ferns grow from a crown or rhizome. They prefer moist, fertile soil and partial shade. The fronds can brown if left to dry out. They love a good mulching of compost or manure. Prune in early spring before new growth emerges.
