Eye catching spring blooms emerge on this early flowering shrub before leaves appear. Flowers become small green berries that turn red and then dark purple in early summer. Berries are sweet and tasty and the birds love them especially the cedar waxwings. You can use the berries to make jams and jellies or pie if you can beat them to it. Leaves turn orangey red in the fall. Keep soil on the moist side.
