Baptisia australis

Baptisia australis
Perennial
Native
Light: Full Sun-Part Shade
Flowering Time: Spring-Early Summer
Zone: 3

One of my favorite easy care perennials. Baptisia is a long lived but slow to establish native North American wildflower. Allow 3 years to flower and another 2 more to reach it's full majesty! It produces showy erect clusters of violet-blue lupine like flowers in early summer. The flowers are followed by striking black swollen seed pods on dark stems. Baptisia have long deep tap roots which make them drought tollerant once established. Allow 3' of space when planting as they can be almost shrub size when mature.
