Hosta are long-lived, easy to grow perennials adaptable to a wide range of sites and soils they are grown primarily for their lush mounds of foliage and diverse colour patterns. While hosta will tolerate a wide range of conditions, they do best in light to full shade in evenly moist soil that is rich in organic matter. Once planted hostas need only minimal care to look their best. Feed in the spring with compost or well-rotted manure.
